Officials in Mahopac, a hamlet of Carmel, New York, plan to discuss a moratorium on self-storage development during a public hearing on Wednesday. Residents have created a petition to curb new industry construction in the area, according to the source.
Residents noted that a pause on self-storage building is “both prudent and necessary” following recently approved and proposed projects in the region. They believe a freeze would allow officials to consider alternative uses for vacant parcels that would better align with the town’s long-term goals including “agriculture, environmental stewardship, education and community-centered development,” the source reported.
The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Mahopac Town Hall.
