Jumbo Self Storage Builds 6-Story Facility in Everett, MA

Update 12/20/19 – Connolly Bros. has completed construction on the Revere Beach Parkway self-storage project. The final design includes two freight elevators, dedicated sales/administration offices and covered customer-parking areas. The structure is branded under CubeSmart, a real estate investment trust and third-party management firm.

“Connolly Brothers did an excellent job with a very challenging site. The population density we target for these assets frequently leads to difficult site conditions, traffic mitigation and tight site logistics,” said Steve Laverty, partner at Jumbo Capital Management. “We very much appreciate our construction partners that help us mitigate risk and execute these projects.”

The project was Connolly’s third completed self-storage facility in the Greater Boston area since 2015. The company has two other self-storage projects under development.

4/24/18 – Jumbo Self Storage LLC is building a six-story facility on 1.3 acres in Everett, Mass., in partnership with construction-management firm Connolly Bros. Inc. The 130,000-square-foot building at 1901 Revere Beach Parkway will comprise 1,200 climate-controlled units. It’ll also feature access control, two freight elevators, a management office and covered parking spaces, according to the source.

The structure is a conventional steel-beam and composite-deck building with concrete slabs. It includes an insulated, metal-panel exterior sheathing system, a glass curtainwall system, a decorative masonry exterior, and an insulated-membrane roof, the source reported.

The project, which is the first collaboration between the two companies, required the demolition of an existing, 24,000-square-foot machine shop and replacement of more than 35,000 cubic yards of unsuitable soil. “We are thrilled to be partnering with Jumbo to bring their vision for this project to fruition,” said Jay Connolly, vice president of Connolly Bros. “This is the first of what we hope to be many projects for Jumbo moving forward. This project has presented a few site-related complications, but the project team has worked collaboratively to overcome these issues.”

Based in Beverly, Mass., Connolly Bros. is a general contractor and management firm specializing in commercial, industrial and institutional development projects. Founded in 1880, it’s under its fifth generation of leadership.

Jumbo Self Storage is led by Howard Hirsh, partner, and Jay Hirsh, managing partner and co-founder, of Jumbo Capital Management LLC, a privately held commercial real estate firm specializing in office space. The company made its first foray into the self-storage market in 2015 by converting a warehouse in Norwood, Mass. It also has storage projects underway in Quincy and Stoneham, Mass.
