Moving-Services Provider SIRVA Worldwide Acquires SmartBox Portable Self Storage

SIRVA Worldwide Inc., an international relocation and moving-services provider, has acquired Virginia-based SmartBox Portable Self Storage LLC. The mobile-storage provider will continue to operate under its brand name as well as maintain its 19 U.S. franchise locations and call center in Richmond, Va. SmartBox founder and CEO Bryan Bostic will continue to operate as a franchisee and serve as a consultant to SIRVA, officials said in a press release.

"The acquisition of SmartBox gains us entry into the portable, self-service moving and storage segment with a reputable brand. It's a low-cost option that vertically integrates with our product and service offerings, and expands our value proposition for customers and clients while providing great synergies for our existing van-line agents," said Drew Coolidge, chief operating officer of moving services at SIRVA. "We welcome SmartBox to the SIRVA family and are excited about our shared growth potential."

The acquisition is viewed by SIRVA as an investment in the "do it yourself" market, adding to the company’s portfolio of mobility solutions. It “will enable corporate clients to realize even further options of different services in their mobility program by offering a self-service, ‘do it yourself’ solution with moving, storage and containerization capabilities,” officials said.

"SmartBox franchisees operate in a multi-billion-dollar industry and are committed to delivering affordable and flexible storage and moving solutions, which will integrate well with the existing suite of SIRVA offerings."

SmartBox offers residents and businesses portable storage and local and long-distance moving solutions. According to the company, it serves nearly 100 million people in 43 U.S. markets and offers containerized long-distance moving services to 75 major metropolitan areas.

SIRVA provides more than 230,000 relocations per year to corporations, government employees and individual consumers through its family of companies, and offers end-to-end mobility services in 170 countries. Its company network includes Allied, Allied International, Allied Pickfords, DJK Residential, Global, northAmerican, northAmerican International, SIRVA Mortgage, SIRVA Relocation, SIRVA Move Management, SIRVA Global Relocation and SIRVA Settlement.
