Abco Rental & Storage Inc., a mobile-storage provider serving Maine, Massachusetts and New Hampshire, intends to build a trade-themed business incubator and storage facility at its 95 Pleasant Hill Road headquarters in Scarborough, Maine. The 32,000-square-foot building will be built in three phases, with the first providing space for Abco and three other small businesses, according to the source. The remaining phases will be built based on demand for incubator office space designed for electricians, landscapers, plumbers and other trade businesses.

Steve Bushey, an engineer with the firm Stantec, represented Abco during a presentation this week to the planning board, telling officials, “There is a need for more industrial space, especially small space.” Similar projects in Portland, Maine, have shown there is high demand in the region for the type of office space the project would offer, he said.

“Overall, we think it’s a good fit and the right use for the zone,” he told planners. At least one board member, Robyn Saunders, verbally agreed with Bushey’s assessment during the meeting.

Bushey will present a phasing plan and provide more project specifics the next time he appears before the board, according to the source.

Abco also has a rental location in North Reading, Mass. The family-owned business has rented mobile-storage containers in Maine for more than 30 years. It also rents mobile offices and semi-truck trailers.
