Diamond Point Development LLC (DPD) and The Ardent Cos. are hosting a ribbon cutting today to celebrate the grand opening of their self-storage facility in Auburn, Maine, which is branded and managed by real estate investment trust Extra Space Storage Inc. DPD is also donating to the local Police Athletic League (PAL), a youth development program that uses sports, recreation and other activities to build positive relationships between youth and law enforcement, according to a press release.
The event will be attended by Auburn Mayor Jeff Harmon and other members of the city staff. Community residents and business owners are invited.
“In the short time the Auburn Extra Space property has been open, it has been very well received by both the residential and the business communities,” said DPD Principal Jason Sommer. “In appreciation of the city’s support of the project, we are proud to make a donation to the new Auburn PAL Center.”

“Thank you so much for this support of the Auburn PAL Center. It’s so meaningful and will directly impact the kids and families of this community,” Mayor Harmon said. “We look forward to welcoming you to our wonderful city of Auburn.”
The three-story building at 1 Center St. comprises 99,600 square feet in 750 climate-controlled units. It was built on a blighted property along the Androscoggin River. Sanford, Maine-based TPD Construction was the general contractor, the release stated.
“It was great to work with [DPD cofounders Aaron and Jason Sommer] on a very challenging site,” said Eric Cousens, executive director of public services for Auburn. “The site was attractive due to the high traffic and that also made it a challenge. Aaron and Jason assembled additional real estate to make the access safe and made room for public-access rights for a future riverfront trail while designing the site. We appreciate their collaboration and investment in Auburn.”
