Update 8/6/25 – Jen Lawson of Lock Stock Self Storage received permission from the Cheshire East Council Southern Planning Committee to build the operator’s proposed facility for Crewe, England, on the site of the former printworks that was destroyed by fire a year ago. The approval hinged on the condition that operating hours would be limited to 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. as mandated by the committee. The original plan was to keep the facility open around the clock, but neighbors expressed concerns about the impact of motion lighting and noise.

8G Storage Management LLC is seeking approval to build a self-storage facility in Bethel, New York. Plans for the 3-acre property at the intersection of New York State Route 17B and Pine Grove Road include six buildings comprising 3,600 square feet. The planning board discussed the project this week but took no action. A public hearing has been scheduled for July 7.

Arcland, which operates the Self Storage Plus brand, opened a new location in Winchester, Virginia. The property at 149 Wincrest Drive offers 115,000 square feet in climate-controlled and drive-up units as well as 100 vehicle-storage spaces. It was designed by bwdarchitects, with Urban Ltd. providing engineering services and Phoenix Construction & Management Inc. serving as the general contractor. Founded in 2006, Arcland operates more than 95 self-storage facilities in nine states.

ARCO/Murray Design Build, a commercial design and construction firm, partnered with Armstrong Capital Development to build BriteLock Self-Storage in Colorado Springs, Colorado. It’s the joint venture’s second collaboration, with more in the pipeline. The three-story building at 40 W. Las Vegas St. comprises 91,788 square feet in 726 units. It also features murals created by a local artist that commemorate the surrounding Mill Street neighborhood. ARCO’s Spencer Chuck served as the project manager. Site superintendents John Holdmeyer, Josh Huskey and Paul Ryan oversaw day-to-day construction. Founded in 1992, ARCO/Murray has completed 5,500 projects nationwide. Based in Denver, Armstrong is a private development company that focuses on commercial real estate across the Midwest.

Batavia Enterprises Inc., which operates the In Towne Self-Storage brand, converted the former Office Max in Peru, Illionois, to self-storage. The renovated property at 4428 Hollerich Drive offers climate-controlled and vehicle-storage spaces. In Towne operates three facilities in Illinois. Batavia owns events, service businesses and commercial and residential real estate across the Fox Valley region of Illinois.

Extra Space Storage Inc., a self-storage real estate investment trust (REIT) and management company, received approval to expand its facility in Englewood, Ohio. Plans for the 9.6 acres at 360 W. National Road call for three buildings, plus 30 vehicle-storage spaces. Headquartered in Salt Lake City, Extra Space operates more than 4,000 self-storage facilities in 42 states. Its facilities comprise 308 million square feet of rentable space in 2.8 million units.

Insite Property Group, which operates the SecureSpace Self Storage brand, received permission from South County, California, Supervisors to develop a facility in Bonita. Plans for the 5-acre site on Quarry Road near California State Routes 54 and 125 call for a 94,088-square-foot building comprising more than 1,000 units. Based in Redondo Beach, California, InSite has 87 facilities operating or under construction.

A joint venture between Iron Point Partners LLC and Taylor/Theus Holdings Inc. developed Vallejo Self Storage in Vallejo, California. The facility at 384 Fairgrounds Drive contains two, three-story buildings comprising 76,288 rentable square feet in 919 climate-controlled units. It’s branded and managed by Extra Space Storage. Iron Point oversees multiple private-equity funds in Europe and North America. Founded in 2007, Taylor/Theus operates 10 self-storage facilities in California, Georgia and Florida, with two under development.

Jen Lawson of Lock Stock Self Storage Ltd. is seeking permission from the Cheshire East Council Southern Planning Committee to develop a facility in Crewe, England. Plans for the property on Frances Street show 175 container–storage units. The site formerly housed printing firm Communisis, which was destroyed by fire in August. Founded in 1999, Lock Stock operates 30 facilities across the United Kingdom.

LSC Development LLC is converting a former office building at 665 W. North Ave. in Lombard, Illinois, to self-storage. The existing 103,109-square-foot structure will become climate-controlled self-storage. The 10.5-acre parcel will also offer 14,800 square feet of vehicle storage in 64 spaces. Founded in 2022 and based in Barrington, Illinois, LSC focuses on the acquisition, development and ownership of commercial real estate, including self-storage properties. Its portfolio and development pipeline consist of more than 3 million square feet.

Real estate investor Dayv Morgan is seeking approval to develop self-storage on an 8-acre site in Maricopa, Arizona. Plans for the parcel on Sonoran Desert Parkway call for two buildings offering 317 units as well as vehicle storage.

The Place 4 Self-Storage received approval to convert the first and second floors of the Trademark House in Petersfield, England. Solar panels will be added to the rooftop at 38 Ramshill. The Place also has projects underway in Alton and Swindon, England.

REIT Public Storage Inc. expanded its facility in Live Oak, Texas. The property at 7303 N. Loop 1604 now contains an additional 3,550 square feet in 25 units. Based in Glendale, California, Public Storage has interests in 3,045 self-storage facilities in 40 states, with approximately 218 million net rentable square feet.

Shurgard Self Storage Ltd., the European affiliate of U.S.-based REIT Public Storage Inc., opened a new location in Beverwijk, Netherlands. The three-story building at Wijkermeerweg 13 comprises 36,597 square feet in 600 units. Shurgard operates 338 self-storage facilities comprising 1.6 million net rentable square meters in Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

SmartStop Self Storage REIT Inc. opened a new location in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. The five-story building at 948 Ellis St. comprises 74,000 net rentable square feet in 800 climate-controlled units. SmartStop owns or manages 219 self-storage facilities in 23 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and Canada, comprising 17.7 million rentable square feet. The company and its affiliates also own or manage 40 storage properties in Canada totaling 3.5 million rentable square feet.

Store Space Self Storage, which operates 78 facilities in 20 states, opened a new location in Pearland, Texas. The three-story, climate-controlled building at 7221 Fite Road comprises 94,415 net rentable square feet in 984 units. Based in Winter Haven, Florida, Store Space is part of the Real Capital Partners family of companies, which includes PacRidge, Storage360 and Sud Stop Car Wash.

Self-storage REITs Strategic Storage Growth Trust VI Inc. (SST VI) and SmartCentres opened a new location in Toronto. The six-story, climate- controlled building at 494 Gilbert Ave. comprises 120,000 net rentable square feet in 1,475 units. SST VI is a publicly registered, non-traded REIT sponsored by an affiliate of SmartStop Self Storage REIT Inc. It operates 24 self-storage facilities in Canada and the United States. SmartCentres develops industrial, mixed-use residential and urban properties across Canada, with a portfolio of nearly 200 assets.

TVG Partners is seeking permission to transform the former Pepperidge Farm office and factory in Norwalk, Connecticut, to self-storage. The 6.3-acre site at 595 Westport Ave. contains numerous buildings including a three-story structure the developer plans to convert to 118,000 square feet of storage in 600 units. TVG is a New York City-based real estate investment company specializing in industrial, multi-family, mixed-use and self-storage projects. Since 2002, it’s developed and acquired more than $500 million in self-storage.

Phoenix-based U-Haul International Inc. opened a new location in East Hempfield Township, Pennsylvania. The 13-acre property at 1985 State Road contains a multi-story building offering 1,206 climate-controlled and drive-up units, a U-Box warehouse for 1,000 portable-storage containers, and 70 vehicle-storage spaces. Established in 1945, U-Haul owns and manages more than 82 million square feet of storage space nationwide.

Wedgewood Avenue is developing a self-storage facility in North Charleston, South Carolina. Plans for the 4.1-acre property include a multi-story, climate-controlled building comprising 86,000 square feet in 826 units. Nashville, Tennessee-based Wedgewood is an investment firm that focuses on private-equity commercial real estate with properties throughout the Southeast. It operates nine facilities in Alabama, Florida and Tennessee.

ARCO/Murray Design Build, a commercial design and construction firm, partnered with Compson Associates Inc. to build Plantation Self Storage in Plantation, Florida. The three-story building at 1480 N.W. 66th Ave. comprises 124,860 square feet in 959 climate-controlled and drive-up units. It’s branded and managed by self-storage real estate trust Extra Space Storage Inc. ARCO’s Carlos Rivas Rocha served as the project manager. Site superintendent Mark Galindo oversaw day-to-day construction. Founded in 1992, ARCO/Murray has completed 5,500 projects nationwide. Founded in 1946, Compson has developed more than $1 billion in industrial, office, residential and retail projects throughout the East.

Aribas Property Development GmbH completed the first phase of a new self-storage facility in Cologne, Germany, offering 32,444 square feet in 487 units. The second phase will add 32,291 square feet in 420 units and is expected to be complete in the third quarter of 2026. The site was acquired by Shurgard Self Storage Europe SARL, the European affiliate of U.S.-based REIT Public Storage Inc. Aribas is a German company specializing in property development.

Diamond Point Development is opening a self-storage facility in Auburn, Maine, that’ll be branded and managed by Extra Space Storage. The three-story building at 1 Center St. will comprises 99,600 square feet in 750 climate-controlled units. It was built on a blighted property along the Androscoggin River. Sanford, Maine-based TPD Construction is the general contractor. Founded in 2009 by Aaron and Jason Sommer, Roswell, Georgia-based Diamond Point has developed 15 properties, with more underway in six states. It manages more than 1 million square feet of space.

Eurogroup International Movers Ltd. opened Eurogroup Store in Gorleston-on-Sea, England. The facility on Lancelot Road in the Beacon Business Park offers insulated container storage. Founded in 1995, Eurogroup International provides moving services in England, France and the U.S.

Extra Space Storage opened a new location in Rancho Cordova, California. The facility at 2130 Tributary Point Drive comprises 137,738 square feet of climate-controlled and drive-up units. Headquartered in Salt Lake City, Extra Space operates 4,011 self-storage facilities in 42 states.

Gray Capital LLC received permission from the local planning board to build Montvale Storage in Montvale, NJ. The three-story structure at 21 Phillips Parkway will be built on 3 acres of the former Western Union campus, which spans 15 acres. A nursing home is also being developed on the site. Indianapolis-based Gray is a multi-family development and investment firm with properties in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan and Ohio. It has $800 million in assets under management.

Integrity Community Partners LLC is converting the Springfield Health Center in Springfield, Vermont, to a mixed-use development. The existing 187,030-square-foot building at 100 River St. currently houses six commercial tenants occupying 49,110 square feet. The plan for phase one, funded by $9.4 million in construction-to-permanent refinancing arranged by commercial mortgage broker Eastern Union, is to transform that structure into 43,000 square feet of self-storage and 55,000 square feet of retail. The nearby vacant property at 5 Pearl St. will house a six-floor, 100-unit, multi-family structure and an adjacent six-floor, 162-unit senior-living facility. Based in San Diego, Integrity has offices in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C. The company specializes in the development of senior-living communities.

Steve Mitnick is seeking permission from the Butler, Pennsylvania, City Council to convert Butler Middle School into a mixed-use property that’ll include a StorExpress self-storage facility and salon suites. Mitnick purchased the property for $475,000 last month, but the sale is contingent upon zoning approval. He plans to rent the suites to hair, nail, cosmetology and tattoo salons. Founded in 1998, StorExpress operates 15 locations in Ohio and Pennsylvania.

MV Investment, a self-storage development, construction and management firm, is developing a facility in Lecanto, Florida. Expected to open in early 2026, the three-story building will offer 639 climate-controlled units. Miller Valentine Construction will serve as the general contractor. Since 2018, MV Investment has developed 20 self-storage properties in Florida, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.

National Storage, which operates more than 230 facilities in Australia and New Zealand, has purchased land in the Melbourne suburb of Canterbury to expand its existing location at 319-329 Canterbury Road. The commercial zoned tract at 315-317 Canterbury Road was acquired in an off-market transaction for $16.5 million.

Nova Storage expanded its facility at 455 A. St. in Fillmore, California, adding 16,500 square feet in 177 indoor units and 14 drive-up spaces. Based in Mission Hills, California, Nova is a locally owned and operated company with 10 facilities in Los Angeles, San Bernardino and Ventura Counties.

Lyndee Richmond opened Mountain Top Self Storage in Tehachapi, California. The single-story facility at 795 W. Tehachapi Blvd. comprises 63,445 square feet in more than 100 climate-controlled and drive-up units. Construction began in May 2023.

Shurgard opened a new location in Stuttgart, Germany. The multi-story facility on Ulmer Street comprises 75,437 square feet in 1,000 units. Shurgard operates 337 self-storage facilities comprising 1.7 million net rentable square meters in Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

Andy Strine opened DEStorage in Milton, Delaware. The property at 300 Broadkill Road contains two, two-story buildings comprising 64,000 square feet of climate-controlled and drive-up units. DEStorage operates 10 facilities across Delaware.

Titan Vanguard, an Atlanta-based commercial real estate firm, is seeking approval to build a self-storage facility in Orlando, Florida. Plans for 6252 Lee Vista Blvd. include a four-story building comprising 125,000 square feet. The application was filed by Z Development Services LLC, a civil-engineering and consulting firm. Titan has 220,000 square feet of commercial space under management.
