Plans for the property at 3701 Pacific Place include a three-story self-storage facility, boat/RV storage and a car wash. The project was originally approved by the planning commission in 2020 and received buy-in from the city council in April 2021. In 2022, environmental groups Los Angles Waterkeeper and Riverpark Coalition filed a lawsuit against the city to require an environmental-impact report (EIR), as the property formerly housed an oil-brine water-treatment facility. It later became a private golf range but has been mostly vacant since 2007. The courts agreed that an EIR was necessary. Once the report confirmed the project was in compliance with mitigation efforts and wouldn’t adversely impact the environment, InSite resubmitted with modifications and agreed to decontaminate the site. Based in Torrance, California, SecureSpace operates more than 70 self-storage facilities in 13 states.
