Self-Storage REIT Extra Space Helps to Plant 35 Trees at Salt Lake City Park

Extra Space Storage Inc., a self-storage real estate investment trust (REIT) and management company, recently partnered with nonprofit TreeUtah to purchase and plant 35 trees at Big Cottonwood Regional Park in Salt Lake City. The REIT sponsored an event through which 150 of its own employees volunteered their time for the planting, according to a press release.

TreeUtah selected the trees best suited for the climate and determined the best area for placement to enhance community health and beauty. The organization also guided the efforts of the Extra Space team.

“Working with organizations like Extra Space Storage allows us to make a significant impact in preserving and caring for our beautiful state,” said TreeUtah Executive Director Amy May. “This tree planting will sequester carbon, cool off heat islands and clean the air in Salt Lake for generations to come.”

“I am so thankful for the Extra Space team, who came together to make a positive community impact,” said Grace Houser, social-impact project lead for Extra Space. “The passion the team showed for this project was contagious, and we could not have done it without the support from the team at TreeUtah. Supporting this initiative is an extension of Extra Space Storage’s existing social-impact and sustainability efforts, and we are proud to have made a difference in the local community.”

Headquartered in Salt Lake City, Extra Space operates 3,812 self-storage facilities under the Extra Space, Life Storage and Storage Express brand names nationwide. Its facilities comprise 292 million square feet of rentable space in 2.6 million units.

TreeUtah works with students, municipalities, local businesses, community groups and volunteers to plant trees in public spaces throughout the state. To date, the nonprofit has planted more than 400,000 trees with the help of 185,000 volunteers.
