Update 1/7/25 – Shurgard has opened its first electrical-vehicle (EV) charging station in Long Ditton, England, a suburb in the borough of Elbridge, Surrey. The facility at Portsmouth Road accommodates electric cars and vans.
The partnership between Shurgard and Leap24 aims to address the growing demand for this type of infrastructure in urban areas with ultra-low emission zones, a source reported.
“We’re partnering with Leap24 for EV charging because we want to continue our journey on ESG [environmental, social and governance], which is to reduce or minimize our impact on the environment,” said Peter Ågren, head of EV for Shurgard. “We have the land available, so why not use it for something good for the community, good for our customers and good for society in general?”

3/6/24 – Shurgard Self Storage Ltd., the European affiliate of U.S.-based real estate investment trust Public Storage Inc., is adding electric-vehicle charging stations at 70 of its facilities. The operator is partnering with Leap24, a provider of charging stations for electric-commercial vehicles, which will design, stall and maintain 24 stations in London and 46 in the Netherlands, according to sources.
Expected to be available by year’s end, the stations will be equipped with 240kW dual chargers that can revive vehicles to approximately 80% in 30 minutes. They’ll be placed at self-storage facilities in zero-emission zones, near other businesses or on major streets. Each will be open 24 hours a day and accept bank and credit cards.
“The collaboration between Shurgard and Leap24 provides a unique boost to the realization of emission-free mobility hubs,” said Pelle Schlichting, founder of Leap24. “The unique combination of flexible storage and electric charging at perfect locations is a key ingredient for the success of zero-emission zones in many Dutch cities and the development of our network in and around London.”
Shurgard operates 276 self-storage properties comprising 1.4 million net rentable square meters in Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
