Five Hong Kong facilities operated by Asia-based Storefriendly Self Storage Group have been recognized for sustainability. The properties received an “Excellent” rating from the Hong Kong Green Building Council Ltd. (HKGBC) in the management aspect of its Building Environmental Assessment Method (BEAM) Plus Existing Buildings (EB) Version 2.1 Selective Scheme. The award recognizes Storefriendly’s ongoing commitment and performance in advancing eco-friendly facility management through robust governance, structured systems and consistent execution, according to a press release.

The certified locations are:

  • Island East, 8 A Kung Ngam Village Road, Shau Kei Wan

  • Metropolis East, 13 Yip Cheong St., Fanling, New Territories

  • Metropolis West, 22-28 Tai Chung Road, Tsuen Wan

  • Peninsula East, 82 Hung To Road, Kwun Tong

  • Peninsula West, 850-870 Lai Chi Kok Road, Cheung Sha Wan

BEAM Plus EB reviews a building’s sustainability performance through categories including site, management, materials and waste, energy use, water, indoor-environmental quality, and innovation. A strong emphasis is placed on responsible management practices and measures that promote the sustainable operation of building spaces, the release stated.

“Achieving this ‘Excellent’ rating reinforces our commitment to [environmental, social and governance]. By optimizing our operations management, we ensure that our self-storage facilities are not only efficient but also environmentally responsible, providing our customers with a superior and greener storage experience,” Storefriendly wrote in a statement.

Founded in 2002, Storefriendly has more than 130 locations across Hong Kong and Macau, China; Singapore and Taiwan. Its portfolio comprises more than 1.1 million square feet in 40,000-plus units.

Founded in 2009, HKGBC is Hong Kong’s industry body that coordinates efforts towards green building. It certifies BEAM Plus projects, accredits BEAM Professional, BEAM Affiliate and BEAM Assessors.
