The words breaking news coming through yellow construction paper

The newest Storex Self Storage facility, located in Sunbury, England, is partially comprised of a “green,” low-carbon cement by Swedish manufacturer Cemvision. It’s the first known commercial deployment of the product in the United Kingdom. The companies have signed a letter of intent to use the product on other Storex projects, according to sources.

The full-scale application of Cemvision’s Re-ment technology, which uses a product called Re-ment Massive to replace traditional Portland cement in foundational slabs, was a collaboration between Atelier Ten, Aztec Construction, Capital Concrete, ROK Planning Ltd., Threesixty Architecture and Will Rudd. Re-ment Massive is a low-heat, ultra-low-carbon cement made from circular materials from other industries. Recent testing has shown that it offers a 75% reduction in CO2, sources reported.

“Storex has an ambitious strategy for lowering embodied CO₂ emissions. Partnering with Cemvision is a vital step in achieving our sustainability goals and cost-efficiency while maintaining the highest standards in construction,” said Robert Grant, senior director of investment and development of self-storage for Storex parent company EQT Exeter.

“This project is a landmark achievement for Cemvision, as we bring the benefits of green cement to U.K. customers,” added Oscar Hållén, CEO of Cemvision. “Working alongside Storex and leading technical partners in architecture, engineering and planning, we are committed to showcasing the scalability and climate benefits of our technology in the U.K. market.”

Storex operates self-storage facilities in Brentford, Cricklewood, Loughton, Sunbury and Watford, England. Its properties feature eco-friendly design, including zero-carbon buildings, “blue” roofs that collect water, LED lighting and electric-vehicle charging stations.

Founded in 2020 by leaders and researchers from the cement industry, Cemvision is backed by investors BackingMinds, Breakthrough Energy Fellows, EQT Foundation, Norrsken Foundation, Polar Structure and Zacua Ventures.

EQT Exeter is a global real estate manager with €84 billion in raised capital and €75 billion of assets under management across multiple strategies.
