Vanguard Self Storage, which operates nine facilities in England, has added a van from food-redistribution charity The Felix Project to the rooftop of its facility in Ealing, West London. Visible from the A40, it’ll be in place until March. It’s there to draw attention to the growing issue of food insecurity in London and highlight the nonprofit’s work, according to a press release.
“As a family-run business with a long history in the capital, we are committed to supporting our local charities and communities,” said Vanguard Managing Director Will McCullagh. “We have worked with and supported The Felix Project previously, so we are proud to come together again to raise awareness of its vital work. We hope this helps to encourage the public and food businesses to support this important cause.”
Launched in 2016, The Felix Project rescues high-quality surplus food that can’t be sold and would otherwise go to waste. Last year, it saved more than 18,000 tons of food in London, redistributing the equivalent of 43-plus million meals to more than 1,200 community organizations and primary schools across every borough.

“We know so many Londoners are really struggling. We recently discovered 43% of working London parents have skipped a meal or not bought themselves food to feed their children in the last 12 months, so partnerships like this are incredibly important in raising awareness,” said Shane Dorsett, chief operating officer for The Felix Project. “This visible show of support from Vanguard Self Storage helps shine a light on the issue, and we hope it inspires more people to get involved and support our mission to fight and stop hunger.”
The Felix Project announced in September that it merged with FareShare, another London-based food-distribution charity. Together, the organizations manage seven locations in Hampshire, Merseyside and Suffolk, England.
Founded in 1964, Vanguard Self Storage is owned by Vanguard Holdings, which has roots dating back to 1964. The family-owned company also operates Vanguard Filebank, a document-storage company with locations in Bristol, London and Manchester, England.
